There's a part of Amsterdam that never sleeps: Nieuwmarkt. In the middle stands the Weigh House or Waag. Originally built in 1488, this characteristic monumental structure now houses Restaurant-Café In de Waag: the ideal place in the heart of Amsterdam for a lunch, reception, meeting or dinner. This magnificent historic building with its constrained yet informal interior design is lit by 300 candles. A combination that ensures a unique atmosphere.

Restaurant-Café In de Waag is open every day. We open at 10.00 AM in the morning, for example for a cup of coffee and an appleschnitt. Sandwiches, soups, salads and cake are available until 16.00 PM in both the café and restaurant sections. From 15.30 PM we offer a choice of light snacks to accompany drinks. From 17.00 PM, when the candlelight atmosphere is at its best, a choice of excellent dishes is served in the restaurant.

Non-smoking

Restaurant-Café In de Waag is a non-smoking restaurant. In non of the sections it is allowed to smoke. Outside on the terrace it is off course possible to smoke a sigaret.

The Old Amsterdam Route

In 2008 the Old Amsterdam Route has been introduced: thé guide in Old Amsterdam! The guide consists among others of a walking route with historical an current places of interest, the most fancy shops, restaurants, tasting rooms, lunchrooms and museums.

We are one of the locations where you can get the guide. On presentation of the guide map you will receive a second cup of coffee or tea for free (maximum 4 persons per visit). On the website www.hetrondjeoudestad.nl you find more information about the Old Amsterdam Route and where to get the guide and how to use it.

See 'menus' to have a look at the Valentine menu. The menu can be accompanied by matching wines. Reservations are advised.

What do you do when you have an extra hour during your visit in Amsterdam? What if you are searching for a cosy ending of your meeting day or for an informal gathering before your dinner? Think about having a Jenever Tasting in Restaurant-Café In de Waag!

We maintain an intimate Jenever Tasting for your group (> 8 people), providing you with a little history about Jenever, the Waag building and nice facts about Jenever. Please contact us when you have any questions on this or when you would like to book a jenever tasting!

We accept cash, pin and creditcard payments of visa and mastercard. Futhermore we are connected to the Dinerjaarkaart (only on sunday, monday and tuesday), Diner cheque, Restaurantbon and Ticket Restaurant. On lunch we offer 25 % discount if you visit us with the Iamsterdam-card (excluding drinks).
